Denim Jacket Refashion

Hmmm!
Somehow I missed posting this jacket before now!
But here we go!

I had this idea in my head to refashion a denim jacket for over a year. But believe it or not, I couldn't find the perfect denim jacket...because I wanted it to be from a resale store.

Well, I finally found one at Salvation Army for $6.99! And it already had stones on the collar! Oh, the bling! I almost did a happy dance in the store.

Sorry, no "before" pics, but you can see the stones on the collar!

I altered it just a bit, because it was a bit too big and the princess seams were not hitting correctly across my bust.

My alterations were a bit tricky and only done on the front of the jacket...not the side seams as that would have pulled the front seams even farther from my bust.

I then embroidered the back with a sewing themed design from embroiderylibrary.com.

Then I remembered that I had some "fusible" strips of bling that I'd purchased at the Houston International Quilt Festival in 2018.

I added it above and below the design.

For these photos, I styled it with my well worn, well loved self-drafted cold shoulder hi/low top made with fabric from Vogue Fabrics!

I was a happy camper!
So much so that I took it with me to wear at the Quilt Festival this year!

 Then the mishap!

At some point I noticed that the bling was coming off!

Yikes!

 What to do?

Well, of course there are sewing machines all over the Festival.
And because we were under the AllBrands booth where the Brother Machines were being demoed and sold, I ran over to a machine and carefully stitched the strips down.

My goal was to stitch them without breaking a needle!
Whew!

Yep, Reen from Embroidery Garden snapped this pic of me sewing away!
Lol!

Those strips won't be coming off ever again!

I love this jacket, which started with just a bit of bling, but has now been completely transformed. ❤

It's cold here now, but I can't wait until spring to wear it again!

Have you refashioned or upcycled a denim jacket or pants?

Reen from Embroidery Garden taught her ITH (In The Hoop) designs class at All Brands in Baton Rouge again this year!
We (her entourage 😉) joined her again this year and now call it our Girl's Weekend/Reunion!

The Girls!
Reen, Marilee, Me, Lisa, Rhonda and KC

The event was sold out - no surprise there - and everyone had a blast!  Three of her designs were completed on each of the 2 days...
  • USB Case
  • Organizer
  • Frame Tool Holder

We also served as helpers during the class! Rhonda was our photographer extraordinaire! Sew fun!

Most of you know that I am one of the Embroidery Garden Educators!  A job that I truly love!

Marilee, one of Reen's Educators helping an attendee.

Rhonda, the owner of A Stitch in time Designs took some spectacular photos during the class.

KC, Reen's Daughter In-love joined us this year! We see you, Lisa! 💗

The Entourage!
We were missing a few people: Molly, Tammy, Michelle and Jennifer!
We missed them! 😞

The entire class from the Day 1 event!  Organizers, USB Cases and Framed Tool holders!  Oh my!

Attendees' completed Framed Tool Holder.  Look at those smiles!

Lisa tried on my knit cardigan from my 3rd Online Class - I think she likes it! 😊

Reen and John Douthat, owner of AllBrands!
Check out her jeans that she embellished with lace from Angela Wolf's embroidery designs!

 Lisa and Rhonda!

Fun hanging out in the French Quarter with Reen and Tammy!
We had a blast!
Of course the 1st thing we ate were beignets.

Reen and KC! Dinner!
That is only half of the stack of onion rings we were served! 😮

Of course we had a Cajun Dinner together!
I love these ladies! We always have a good time together!
Laughs, conversation with loads of love!
💝

Can't wait to get together again!

For now I am prepping for my trip to teach Embroidery Garden ITH Projects
at Prairie Quilt in Oklahoma next weekend!
Hope to see some of you there!

Fun at the Houston International Quilt Festival - 2018

I had a blast working with Reen from Embroidery Garden at the Houston International Quilt Festival last week! We were easily found under the AllBrands and Brother "umbrellas"!

This was the 2nd year that Reen invited me to work with her at the fest!

And this is the 2nd year we had a blast!

I spent a lot of time working on the Brother Dream Machine 2.  I learned a lot and created and stitched out a ton of designs, thanks to Reen! Below are just a few that I designed and stitched!

Reen taught many classes on the Design Center of the new top of the line machine...
The Luminaire Innov-is XP

We were next to Brent Taylor from Durkee Hoops, and Mike John's of Mama's Boy booths again this year! We also were neighbors with Scott from Hot Fix Fabrics They were all fun neighbors!
Look at the size of that Durkee hoop!

Angela Wolf was also there! It is always great to see her!

I got to spend some snippets of time with many, many people...The talented Earlene Stalks and Barbara Douthat Chatelain were just two of many!

I had the pleasure of running into and meeting Vivian Varble of @_stitchesandseams_who I knew of from the weekly sewing show, "That Sewing Blab".  She is a fun, sweet sewist!

Everyone had fun!  Look at all the great smiles!

I got to see Sonja again this year! Sew fun!

Reen taught this young lady how to design and make her own luggage tag by using the Design Center on the Dream Machine 2 in just a few short minutes!  That smile says it all!

I've known Karen Pharr for many years, but we only get to see each other at sewing events! I was thrilled to see her!

Views from above!
The event was on the 1st floor of the convention center.  These photos were taken from the 2nd floor!  I think they give you an idea of the expanse of the space!  You definitely need a good pair of walking shoes!

Reen made Angela a "fish" Christmas Stocking! How adorable!

Wow! Check out Reen's blinged out Event Badge Pouches these ladies made!  Sew Creative!

And what would the Quilt Festival be without antics!
This was my runway walk! HAHAHA!

 More Antics!

Massages!  Ahhh!
I wish we'd done this on the last day of show!
We had a blast, but we were tired!

I hope you enjoyed this mini-tour of the
Houston International Quilt Festival!

Happy Endless Sewing!
